James W. McDonald

James W. McDonald, 76, of Womelsdorf, died Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Barbara A. (Gosch) McDonald to whom he was married 54 years on November 16.

Born in Lebanon, PA on April 8, 1935 , he was the son of the late James Vincent and Luella
(Smith ) McDonald.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and had been employed at the Reading Bakery Systems, Robesonia for 45 years, retiring in 2000. After his retirement, he continued working
part time for 10 years.

An active member of Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg, he served on church council and enjoyed being in charge of the oyster dinners.

An avid sports fan , he enjoyed golfing and the New York Yankees.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Jane wife of Thomas Yaun of Fredericksburg, Virginia; sons James W. McDonald, Jr. of Denver, PA, John H. husband of Rosanna McDonald of Schaefferstown, Jere D. husband of Susan McDonald of Boyertown, PA; grandchildren Kristen, Brendan, Laken, Ryne, Kelly, Thomas and Caitlin McDonald, Amy Gates, Kate Yaun; great grandchildren April, Leon, Ashby and Luke; his faithful companion, dog Tippy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. from Christ Lutheran Church, 27 Long's Church Lane, Womelsdorf. There will be no viewing or visitation. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assn., Lebanon Div., 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
