Richard P. "Rick" Swanger, 57, of Hurlock, MD, formerly of Myerstown, PA, died Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.

He was the husband of Sue (Pak Sun Ae) Swanger to whom he would have been married 29 years on May 16.

Born in Lebanon, PA on January 8, 1955, he was the son of the late Richard P. Swanger, Sr. who died in December 2000, and Barbara A. (Etchberger) Iceman of Myerstown, PA wife of the late William J. Iceman who died on August 15, 1997.

A 1973 graduate of ELCO High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was employed as a general contractor for 30 years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 243, Hurlock, MD, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Mike husband of Megan "Colleen" Swanger of Hurlock, MD; sisters Chong Ae wife of Clinton Makely of Springfield, VA, Sandi wife of Ed Schiavo of Boyertown, PA, Barbie wife of John McMullen of Myerstown, PA, Brooke wife of David Miranda of Myerstown, PA, Tracie wife of Chuck Uhler of Lebanon, PA, Melody wife of Michael Patton of York, PA; brothers Clinton husband of Chong Ae Makely of Springfield, VA, William J. Iceman II of Myerstown, PA, Joseph husband of Becky Shifflett of Maxwell, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. from New Beginnings-Grace Brethren Church, 430 E. Lincoln Ave., Myerstown, PA. Viewing at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment at Salem Reformed Cemetery, Bethel, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, 810 Vermont Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20420. Grose Funeral Home, Myerstown, is entrusted with the arrangements.
