Joseph J. "Silver Cup" Whitmoyer, 84, of Lebanon, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

He was the husband of Vivian M. (Schoener) Care Yiengst Whitmoyer to whom he would have been married 23 years in March 2012 and the late Verna (Kupp) Whitmoyer who died on July 1, 1988.

Born in Myerstown, PA on February 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Harry and Irene (White) Whitmoyer.

He was employed as a truck driver by Carlos R. Leffler, Inc., Richland, for 25 years where he received his one million mile safety certificate. He was previously employed by the Calcite Quarry, Lebanon, and worked for many years as a part time police officer in Myerstown Borough.

A member of Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, Bethel, he was a lifetime member of the Richland Fire Police, a member of the Goodwill Fire Co. marching unit, Myerstown, for many years, and enjoyed traveling, gospel music, Polka music, and reading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joan wife of Paul I. Sweigart of Lebanon; step daughter Christine wife of Michael Drupp of Lebanon; grandchildren Sheila wife of Jeffery Klopp of Myerstown, Todd Gockley of Seattle, WA, Kristi wife of Todd Brown of Womelsdorf; step granddaughter Lindsay Miller of Jonestown; and great-granddaughter Emily Krall of Myerstown. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Gockley who died on May 25, 1985.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 12 p.m. from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown. Viewing on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment at New Union Cemetery, Myerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Building Fund" of Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, 31 Rehrersburg Road, Bethel, PA 19507.
